mp3: Young Waves - Cliffdiver

disconaivete:

Sweet lo-fi bedroom-r&b, created with just a loop pedal, a 4-track and a bunch of Young Waves’ roommates instruments and stuff. Cliffdiver is very different from the ambient material Young Waves previously released, but I’m liking this new direction. File somewhere inbetween How to Dress Well and The Weeknd, but without the electronics - which makes it somehow sound very nostalgic. It’s rather sad and quite soothing, but very beautiful. (via)

Young Waves - Cliffdiver

The ghostly, almost hallucinogenic music of Toronto’s Young Waves is as beautiful as it is fleeting.  It floats across your aural landscape like a shadow hidden within a breeze, a distant mirage on a hot day.  The ethereal essence of the track is clearly part of Young Waves’ ethos too as it was recorded in a computer-free zone; just a four-track, a loop pedal and some of his roommate’s instruments. This is a great example of when less equals more. Check out more and download the track for free at Young Waves’ bandcamp page.

you are a mirror image of a girl you’ll never know, who waits in hell so you don’t have to be alone

new music video from my friends The Formalists. Beautiful stuff. I am so lucky to be living in such a beautiful city, full of such amazing talented people.

Toronto is just bursting with incredible artists & musicians… and i’m completely lucky & honoured to call some of them my friends. here’s one—my boy Ryan who makes beautiful make-out-in-your-bedroom dreamscapes under the alias Young Waves. he just put out an incredible little e.p. called “We Grew Up”—click on the title of this post to go to his site where it is free to stream/download! i highly suggest you do—this is breathtaking and haunting and powerful in its quiet and subtle movement. i just wish there was more!

i was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the song “Chairlifts” a few months ago and it was one of the songs that helped me cope during a winter of discontent. thanks for that, buddy. the last track, “Cassette,” i’ve listened to about 50 times now and each time it makes me tear up a little. something about that piano dude… gives me goosebumps!

this is part of the soundtrack to my spring of rebirth. let’s all get lost in it.
